Janan Shanti means a 'shanti' of a person who has taken birth at an inauspicious time of a particular day. If a child gives birth at such a time, he is likely to face hardships in his future life. Therefore, it is advisable to perform this / these ‘shanti ’. These ‘shanti’ are supposed to be performed at the earliest. So, it can be performed on 13 th day from the birth of a child or at any time, later.

Last 24 minutes (1 'Ghati ') of ‘tithi’ 5,10 & 15 i.e. Panchami, Dashami & Pournima / Amavasya) and first 24 minutes (1 'Ghati ') of ‘tithi’ 6, 11 & 1 i.e. Shashthi, Eakadashi & Pratipada, is called “Tithi Gandant ” period. It is treated as an inauspicious time in “Muhurta” and “Child Birth”.
Last 12 minutes (half 'Ghati ') of Lunar signs Cancer, Scorpio & Pieces ascendant's and first 12 minutes (half 'Ghati ') of Lunar signs Leo, Saggitarius & Aries ascendant's is called “Lagna Gandant” period. It is treated as an inauspicious time in “Muhurta” and “Child Birth”.
Waar, Nakshatra & Tithi Yog Shanti :
A particular combination of ‘Waar’, ‘Nakshatra’ & ‘Tithi ’ existing on a particular day suggests inauspicious time. Depending upon the combination type, ‘Yamghant Yog Shanti ’, ‘Mrityuyog Shanti ’, ‘Kaldand Yog Shanti ’, or ‘Dagdha Yog Shanti ’ has to be performed.

In any horoscope, if either Jupiter or Moon or Sun or any 2 out of these planets are in union with either Rahu or Ketu in any one house, it is termed as “Grahan Yog”.
When any one planet from Jupiter, Moon or Sun is in union with either Rahu (or Ketu) and one or two other planets from Jupiter, Moon or Sun are in union with Ketu (or Rahu), it is termed as “Double Grahan Yog”.
Sometimes, any 2 planets from Jupiter, Moon & Sun, are in union with either Rahu (or Ketu) in any one house, it is also termed as “Double Grahan Yog”.

Out of the total 27 constellations (नक्षत्रे), if a person’s death occurs when ‘Krittika’, ‘Punarvasu’, ‘Uttara Falguni’, ‘Vishakha', ‘Uttarashadha’ or ‘Purva Bhadrapada’ constellation is prevailing on a day, it is termed as inauspicious for death.
It is believed that if the proper ‘shanti ’ ritual is not performed, the dead person may carry another three (3) family members with him within a two-year period time (i.e. more 3 persons may pass away). So, in order to remove all those bad effects / evils / consequences / implications likely to be generated for the family members, due to this particular demise, ‘Tripad Nakshatra Shanti’ is performed.
Panchak Nakshatra Shanti :
Out of the total 27 constellations (नक्षत्रे), if a person’s death occurs when ‘Dhanishtha’ (latter part),‘ Shat taraka’, ‘ Purva Bhadrapada’, ‘ Uttara Bhadrapada’ & ‘ Revati ’ constellation is prevailing on a day, it is termed as inauspicious for death.
It is believed that if the proper ‘shanti ’ ritual is not performed, the dead person may carry another three (5) family members with him within a two-year period time (i.e. more 5 persons may pass away). So, in order to remove all those bad effects / evils / consequences / implications likely to be generated for the family members, due to this particular demise, ‘Panchak Nakshatra Shanti’ is performed.
These 5 constellations mentioned above are the last five (5) constellations in the order of sequence. It occurs when the moon’s longitude exist between 296 degrees and 360 degrees in sidereal calculation.
This Shanti is performed on the 13th day from the death of a person in order to remove all inauspicious elements generated due to the death. During this ritual, Puja of Varun & Mrityunjay is performed along with chant of Vedic Hymns.
